A Haven Academy course
Your child is not giving you a hard time. They are having one. When you learn to read what behavior is telling you, the hard moments start to make sense, and you know what to do.
Understanding what your child is really telling you.
6 modules · 18 lessons · In-course AI coach · Virtual personalized coaching available · Taught by Jennifer Phelps, MS, BCBA
I built this course for the parents who are trying their hardest with a child whose behavior they don't always understand. When you learn to read what your child is telling you, everything else gets a little easier. I'd love to walk through it with you.
What you'll learn
The curriculum
Module 1
Before you can change how you respond, it helps to understand what is happening inside your child's brain. This module gives you a simple, accurate picture of the developing brain, so that frustrating behavior starts to make sense.
Module 2
This module gives you the behavior-detective skills from applied behavior analysis, made simple. You will learn to figure out what a behavior is communicating, so you can respond to the real need instead of the surface.
Module 3
A child cannot learn a better way while their nervous system is in distress. This module shows you how to help your child calm first, using the most powerful tool you have: your own steady presence.
Module 4
Understanding your child's needs is not the same as having no limits. This module shows you how to hold warmth and boundaries together, and how to teach the skill that is missing underneath the behavior.
Module 5
Neurodivergent children communicate through behavior in their own ways. This module helps you read behavior across ADHD, autism, anxiety, and sensory differences, with a neurodiversity-affirming lens that builds on your child's strengths.
Module 6
The real engine of change is your relationship, and it lasts far longer than any single hard moment. This final module is about repair, the strength of your bond, caring for yourself, and knowing when to reach for more support.
Who this is for
A note from your teacher
"You will leave each lesson with one thing you can use that day, feeling understood instead of judged, and a little more confident that you can do this."

Questions
No. This is education and support for parents. It sits alongside your child's pediatrician, therapist, school team, and any other professionals you work with. It doesn't replace any of them.
No. The science of behavior, regulation, and connection applies to every child. The course also includes a module specifically on neurodivergent profiles (ADHD, autism, anxiety, sensory differences), so it lands whether your child has a diagnosis, a question about one, or neither.
Each lesson is short, around 10 to 15 minutes of reading, plus one small thing you can try the same day. Go at whatever pace your life allows.
Think of it as a teaching assistant that sits next to you while you take the course. It's grounded in the specific lesson you're reading and in the parenting principles of this course, so it's great for follow-up questions, having a concept explained another way, or working through a scenario from your home in the moment. It is not a therapist, a doctor, or a stand-in for personalized clinical advice, and it doesn't know your child's full story. For real one-on-one, personalized support, that's what coaching with Jennifer is for.
Yes. We treat different brains as different, not broken. The course never frames the goal as making a child seem 'normal' or pushing them to mask. It helps you understand the wiring, meet the need underneath the behavior, and build a home that fits your child.
